2017 Surrey Gymnastics Invitation results

The Surrey Gymnastic Society played host to over 750 gymnasts, 125 coaches and 50 judges at this year’s annual competition at the Guilford Recreation Centre, from March 3 – 5, 2017.

There were three events hosted together:

  • 32nd Annual Carol Lenz Memorial Invitational
  • 30th Surrey Classic Men’s Invitational
  • 4th Annual Surrey Interclub Meet

Here are the Surrey Gymnastic Society athlete highlights:

Boys’ Results

National Open – In the 1st Trials to qualify for the Gymnastics BC team to Canadian Championships, 15-year-old Treyson Cerrato placed 6th All Around, 2nd on Pommel Horse, 3rd on High Bar and 4th on Vault.

Elite 4 – 13-year-old Emanuel Gutierrez Sandoval placed 4th All Around.  En route Sandoval won gold on Vault, 3rd on High Bar, 4th on Pommel Horse, 5th on Floor and Rings and 6th on Parallel Bars.

Provincial 5 – 14-year-old Muzzammil Taziz placed 3rd All Around 2nd on Floor, 3rd on Pommel Horse, 5th on Rings, Vault and High Bar and 6th on Parallel Bars.

Provincial 4 – 11-year-old Carter Baker was the All Around gold medalist in this category; 1st on Parallel Bars, 2nd on Pommel Horse and 3rd on Floor, Vault and High Bar.  Team mate, Luke Van Harmelen followed right behind Baker as the silver All Around winner.  Van Harmelen won gold on Pommel Horse, Vault and High Bar, placed 3rd on Parallel Bars and 6th on Floor.

Girls’ Results

Aspire 1 – 9-year-old Viktoria Duchesne did well in her category for athletes born in 2008.  She placed 2nd All Around, 1st on Bars, 2nd on Vault, Beam and Floor.

Junior Olympic 9 – 13-year-old Maria Bashko placed 5th All Around, 2nd on Vault, 3rd on Beam and 5th on Floor in the JO9 category for 2004 – 2006 born girls.

JO8 – 11-year-old Maya Wilson did well in a 4-year age group (2004-2007).  Wilson placed 10th All Around and 2nd on Beam.  In the same category and the same age, Talya Jalbert was 6th on Beam.  In the same category but a different age division (1999-2003), 14-year-old Alexa Cannon was 4th on Vault.

JO7 – 12-year-old Alice Bashko placed 5th All Around and 1st on Floor in the 2005-2008 age division. In the 2000-2004 age division, 13-year-old Uliana Grichkovskaia placed 6th All Around, 1st on Floor, 4th on Vault and 6th on Bars.

JO6 – In the 2006-2008 category, 11-year-old Maren Paterson placed 6th All Around and 2nd on Bars. In the 2003-2005 13-year-old Monaeya Silviera placed 2nd All Around, winning gold on Vault, 3rd on Bars and Floor.  Team mate, 12-year-old Erin Harvey placed 3rd All Around, 2nd on Beam, 4th on Vault and Floor and 5th on Bars.  Also in the same category, 11-year-old Simrin Sandhu placed 6th on Beam.

JO3 – In the 2008-2009 category, 9-year-old Zareina Manuzon placed 3rd All Around, winning silver medals on Bars and Floor and placing 6th on Beam.  8-year-old Gabriella Kovacs placed 5th on Bars.  In the 2006 division, 11-year-old Layla Omar Ali placed 8th All Around, winning gold on Vault and placing 5th on Beam.  In the 2007 age division, 10-year-old Jasmine Kong placed 2nd All Around, 1st on Beam, 3rd on Bars, 5th on Flor and 6th on Vault.  In the same age division Maryam Chaudhry placed 4th All Around and 3rd on both Vault and Beam.   In the 2003-2005 age division 12-year-old Chloe Dickson won the All Around gold, 1st on Beam, 3rd on Vault and 5th on Bars and Floor.

 

Next up for the Men’s Program is the Kamloops Invitational which will double as the Trials to Western Canadian Championships on March 18.  For the Girls’ Program it will be the Twisters Invitational on the same weekend hosted in Abbotsford.  The girls’ meet also is their trails to Westerns.
