2017 Notice of Annual General Meeting

All members are invited and encouraged to attend Surrey Gymnastic Society’s AGM.    The BC Gaming Branch requires that we provided a count of the membership who attends our AGM, so proving a healthy AGM attendance is key.

This meeting will also be to adopt new bylaws as per the BC Society’s act so our bylaws are congruent.

Many thanks to Tyler Mahon for building the frame, Mike Baker for driving, and Costas for bringing the decorations!

Western Canadian Gymnastics Championships results

Five members of the Surrey Gymnastic Society took flight to Brandon, Manitoba from April 26-29 to compete at the Western Canadian Gymnastics Championships.  The competition had athletes competing from all four Western Provinces and the Yukon and Northwest Territories.

The SGS athletes had some great results as can be seen in the highlights below:

Girls

9-year-old Viktoria Duchesne competed in the Aspire 1 category at her first inter-provincial championships and came away with the All Around Bronze medal.  Duchesne was one of only two girls in her category to place in the top 6 on each of her four competition apparatus; 4th on Bars and Floor, 5th on Beam and 6th on Vault.  Duchesne was also the top ranked BC girl in her category.

Boys

Elite 4 – 13-year-old Emanuel Gutierrez Sandoval placed 4th in the All Around competition.  On day 2 of competition, Sandoval competed in five apparatus finals.  He was crowned Elite 4 Western Canadian Vault Champion, took silver on High Bar, bronze on Rings, 5th on Pommel Horse and 6th on Parallel Bars.

Provincial 4 – 11-year-old Carter Baker placed 9th All Around.  On day 2, Baker was crowned the Provincial 4 Western Canadian Floor Champion during apparatus finals.  12-year-old teammate Luke Van Harmelen placed 10th All Around.  His top individual event placing was 11th on Parallel Bars.

Provincial 5 – 14-year-old Muzzammil Taziz placed 14th All Around.  His top apparatus ranking was 7th on Floor.

Competitive Program Director, John Carroll said, “I am very proud of all five of the SGS athletes.  This is the highest level of competition these kids could qualify for this season.  Two Apparatus Champions and one gymnast on the All Around podium shows great promise for our program’s future.  I hope it inspires all our competitive kids to see what is possible with hard work and determination.  Hopefully it will also make more kids in our community consider the sport of gymnastics for them.”
